Version 0.6 is Finally Here!
After a LOT of work, here it is, version 0.6 of Tennis Of The Dead is finally here.
This is by far the biggest update yet, and most influential to future of this project.
As I talked earlier in previous post, remaking this game in Godot 4 took a lot of development time, but it paid of as it made me redo some bad code and rethink about the core of TOTD. Most of changes are internal but with the delay I was able to add new things:
- A new map has been added, the graveyard
- animation when scoring
- Ai has changed to try return ball to player
But the biggest change of all (and why this is the most influential version to future of TOTD) is core gameplay. A ton changed and actually it resembles a fighting game now (Specially Smash):
- Ball initial speed is higher
- Hitlag has been reduced
- Tipper as been changed to actually launch ball faster
- Attack animations can be cancelled in certain time frames
- A new attack has been added
- Ball speed resets when hit by another player
The idea is to add more depth to gameplay by focusing more on how to attack and wrack up speed rather than just mindlessly hitting the ball. For now there's only 2 moves, but as I code more updates, new moves will be added (As I'm still limited to gameboy's limitations, i will probably copy smash brothers's approach and assign a direction to each attack) and gameplay should evolve really fast.
I'm really tired, not gonna lie. Some of those features were added in a rush, hence some animations may seem sloppy and rushed (because they were), but I hope you like playing this version, i'm doing my best. See you later!
